Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides hands-on support to individuals with disabilities to help them live safe, meaningful, and independent lives. This role focuses on assisting individuals with daily activities, skill development, and community participation while promoting dignity, choice, and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, and mobility
- Support individuals in developing life skills such as communication, social interaction, and self-care
- Encourage independence and self-advocacy while respecting individual preferences and goals
- Provide support during community outings, recreational activities, and employment or volunteer opportunities
- Implement individual service plans and document progress, behaviors, and incidents accurately
- Monitor health and safety, administer medications as required, and respond to emergencies appropriately
- Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, families, and interdisciplinary team members
- Follow all Organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities or in human services (preferred)
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate, patient, and dependable
Physical Requirements
- Ability to assist with lifting, transferring, and mobility support as needed
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods
